Expert Insights: Choosing & Maintaining Your Floating Fountain

Technical Sizing & Performance +

Selecting the correct horsepower is the difference between a functional pond and a stagnant one. For most Canadian acreage ponds, we recommend 1.5 HP per acre for effective surface movement. Our Atlas-6000 Series is specifically engineered for high-visibility applications but requires a minimum depth of 24" to operate safely. We focus on Vertical Flow Rates (GPM), ensuring your fountain moves water from the bottom up, not just splashing on the surface.

The Biologist’s Approach to Aeration +

As a biologist-led team with over 20 years of experience, we look beyond the spray pattern. A floating fountain is a tool for thermal stratification disruption. By increasing dissolved oxygen levels, you accelerate the breakdown of organic muck and prevent toxic gas buildup. Our systems are tested in Northern climates to ensure they handle the high nutrient loads common in Eutrophic Canadian ponds.

Certified Repair & Canadian Warranty +

Pond Pro Canada is a Certified Repair Centre for Kasco Marine and Outdoor Water Solutions. This means your investment is backed by local expertise. We stock replacement parts and offer full warranty support across Canada. Whether you are managing a golf course, a municipal retention pond, or a private acreage, our team provides the stable, long-term technical support required for high-efficiency systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between a decorative fountain and an aerator?

Decorative fountains focus on spray height and pattern width, whereas aerating fountains (like our Atlas Series) prioritize water volume (GPM). If pond health and muck reduction are your goals, choose a system with a higher vertical flow rate.

Can these lake fountains stay in the water during Canadian winters?

No. Floating fountains should be removed before ice-up to prevent damage to the float and motor. For winter water management, we recommend switching to a Kasco De-Icer or a Can-Air Subsurface Aeration system to maintain an open hole in the ice.

Do you offer solar-powered pond floating fountains?

Yes. We manufacture the Pond Pro® Atlas Solar series as well as carry Outdoor Water Solutions solar systems which are ideal for remote acreage ponds where grid power is unavailable. These units are highly efficient and designed for reliable performance in the Canadian sun.

How does a pond fountain help with mosquito control?

Mosquitoes require stagnant water to successfully lay eggs and develop larvae. By maintaining constant surface agitation with a high-volume fountain, you disrupt their life cycle and naturally reduce populations without the need for chemical intervention.

Can a pond fountain eliminate foul pond odors?

Yes. Foul odors are typically caused by hydrogen sulfide gas produced in oxygen-deprived conditions at the pond bottom. Fountains facilitate gas exchange at the surface, venting these odors while circulating oxygen to "dead zones" to help beneficial bacteria break down organic muck.

Will a fountain help prevent algae blooms?

Circulation is a key component of algae management. Fountains prevent stagnant, warm surface temperatures that algae thrive in, while increased dissolved oxygen levels support the aerobic bacteria that compete with algae for excess nutrients like phosphorus and nitrogen.

What horsepower range is available for large-scale projects?

We stock high-efficiency motors from 1/2 HP to 7.5 HP for standard acreage use. For industrial, municipal, or large golf course applications, we offer systems up to 40 HP, ensuring we can provide effective aeration for even the most expansive bodies of water.

How does a pond fountain impact the health of my fish?

Oxygen is the most vital variable for aquatic life. High-performance pond fountains increase dissolved oxygen levels throughout the water column, preventing "summer fish kills" often caused by oxygen depletion during hot, calm spells, ensuring your koi or trout remain stable and healthy.
